Home insurance, otherwise known as homeowners insurance, will cover damages and losses in the event of a fire or break-in. This insurance typically covers interior or exterior residential damage, furnishings, personal items, and other assets. Additionally, this policy should also include living expenses coverage, financing the costs of having to reside someplace else while your home is being repaired.
A renters insurance policy is a group of coverages designed to help protect renters living in a house or apartment. A typical renters insurance policy includes three types of coverages that help protect you, your belongings, and your living arrangements after a covered loss. Personal property coverage pays the cost to repair or replace your belongings, such as clothing, furniture and electronics, up to the limits in your policy. Liability coverage pays repairs if you accidentally damage someone else's property or a guest's medical bills if you're found responsible for their injuries. Additional Living Expenses pays for additional costs incurred, like hotel bills, if the residence you rent is damaged and left uninhabitable.
In case of a natural disaster, we highly recommend adding hurricane, tornado, and/or earthquake coverage to your policy so that you will be covered in the event that one does cause damage to your property. While these are rare instances in Texas, it’s best to be prepared.
Additionally, dwelling coverage is also recommended for homeowners in areas susceptible to floods. Your home's sewage system will also be covered under your dwelling policy.
